AVON, Ohio--Very sad news out of Cincinnati this morning as many were informed of the sudden unexpected death of former Avon High School Football player Jeremiah Kelly according to multiple media outlets.

"We've suffered a heartbreaking loss today." said Athletic Director John Cunningham.

As of press time there was no immediate cause of death for the 6'6 offensive lineman, according to the Cinncinnati University athletes website he was listed as an early enrollee and was involved in spring practice.

The Bearcats football family is heartbroken by the sudden loss of this outstanding young man," said Coach Scott Satterfield. In the short time Jeremiah has spent with our team, he made a real impact, both on the field and in our locker room. My prayers are with the Kelly family and those who had the pleasure of knowing Jeremiah.

The big versatile offensive lineman just recently helped the Avon Eagles to an OHSAA Division II state title and would commit to Cincinnati with former teammate Jakorion Caffey.

The Avon Local School District released a statement via their Facebook page:

It is with great sadness that we share with you the news of the death of an Avon student Jeremiah Kelly. Jeremiah was a senior at our high school. As we know from past tragedies, no words can console or explain what the student's family and our Eagles must be experiencing.

The football and stadium and locker room will be open today from 12:00-5:00pm for students, staff, and parents to gather.

(Avon administrators and counselors and members of the Lorain County Crisis Team will be there to support individuals.)

This loss will raise many emotions, concerns, and thoughts for our entire community, especially our students who we know are deeply impacted. Our high school counselors, County Crisis Team and staff are here to help.

Avon Local Schools will have resources available for students, parents, or staff members who may need help during this difficult time. If you would know a student who may be in need of direct support, please contact Virginia Fitch, Assistant Superintendent fitchv@avoneagles.org as she will be checking her email frequently.

The Avon Athletics Booster Facebook Page posted a GoFundMe link for a contribution during this unimaginable time for all who knew Jeremiah Kelly. GoFundMe link here, as of press time $50,000 has been raised in support of his family and loved ones.
