MASSILLON, Ohio--The Tigers looked south to hire defensive coordinator Jeff Kent from Georgia.
Kent, a native of Georgia, brings a lot of knowledge to the Tigers' defense. He replaces Spencer Leno, who took the head coaching job at Massillon Perry a few months ago.
Kent has a strong coaching background in Georgia high schools. Many coaches praise his organizational and player development skills.
He played football at Briarwood Academy in Warren County, Georgia. He then committed to Morehead State in Kentucky and later played at LaGrange. He graduated from Georgia Southern University.

Before coming to Massillon, he coached inside linebackers at Oakland High School since 2022. Before Oakland, he was defensive coordinator and assistant head coach at Valdosta High School for two years. This was his second time there.
In 2021, his Valdosta team was ranked No. 1 in Class 6A in Georgia. He now aims to improve the Massillon defense, known as the Black Swarm. They won the Ohio High School Athletic Association Division II State Championship in 2023 and made the region finals in 2024.
