Perry football head coach Zach Slates relieved of coaching duties

PERRY TWP, Ohio--In a surprise move the Perry Panther faithful has relieved Head Coach Zach Slates of his coaching duties and immediately are in the process of looking for his predecessor according to a post on social media.

"They've decided to go a different direction without me leading the program," said Slates to WHBC Sports reporter Kenny Roda.

He compiled a (16-28) record while at the helm for the Panthers after being hired in May of 2021, this season Slates went 6-6 and regional quarter-final finish, a win over Columbus Northland and a loss to Big Walnut.

"We want to thank Coach Slates for his hard work and dedication to our football program, our players and Perry Township community, but at this time we've made the decision to go a different direction," said Kevin Yoder Perry Athletic Director. "and we're starting the process of finding our next head coach to lead the program and continue to build on the great football tradition we have at Perry."

"I am thankful for the opportunity that I have had over the last 14 years, being apart of this program in a coaching capacity. I love this community and this football program, I grew up here and am raising my family here and there's nowhere else I would want to be," said Slates. "I love these kids I've coached and hopefully helped mold into young men. It's been great and I love Perry Football, Go Perry!"
