MASSILLON, Ohio--The Massillon Tigers boys basketball team is a fun team to watch as they defeat Mentor in the Hall of Fame Hoops Hardwood Classic 97-85.
Early in the game Massillon senior Gio Jackson Jr. would rally off the first few points of the game starting with a dunk to get things rolling for the Tigers in a tight game for the better part of the first quarter with a 24-19 lead going into the second quarter.
Mentor would slow down Massillon in the quarter holding them to 17 total points, this would be enough for the Cards to take a 1-point lead into the half 42-41.
Opening the third quarter Massillon would go on a 13-0 run playing a faster pace game where Mentor could not slow down leading to a 32 point quarter for the Tigers as Jackson Jr. would get help from teammate Chris Knight, both were in double digits at this point in the game.
"Kids made plays honestly," said Hose.
Playing a fast paced game with help from the bench put them ahead for the remainder of the game, as it would become a dunk fest and shooting barrage as they would not look back, Mentor just could not slow down the offense and break the press at times.
Jackson Jr. and Knight combined for 50 of the 97 points, 26 and 24 respectively.
"I feel like the whole team plays a great defensive effort and in the press our guards have a lot of energy that makes offensive points," said Jackson Jr.
Chris Knight's scoring came down the course of the game after failing to hit key shots early.
"At first my shot wasn't falling but I didn't get upset with myself you know my teammates were picking me up," said Knight.
