'I'm a faithful person': Ali Beydoun will lead Toledo into battle versus Watterson

TOLEDO, Ohio--Since emerging as the starter for Toledo, Beydoun used his faith to guide the reigning Division III State Champs at another shot of taking home gold, coincidently playing the same team they played in last years title game, Bishop Watterson. Toledo also won the Division II title in 2022 defeating Akron Archbishop Hoban 28-21, Beydoun was only in the eighth grade.

"I'm a faithful person." Beydoun replied.

Beydoun is the young dual-threat sophomore quarterback who began the season (JV starter) and varsity backup ultimately doing his job then getting the call when starter Isiah Fox went down in the regional semi-final vs Lexington with a broken collar bone, and has positioned himself under the bright lights of Tom Benson Stadium.

Since his presence in the regional semi-final he has thrown 10 TDs to one interception, making multiple appearances at times throughout the season for the Irish. 

"I trusted the process and continued to work while I waited," said Beydoun. "Whenever my number was called I stepped up for my team."

As stated before Central Catholic will attempt to three-peat after beating Youngstown Ursuline 7-6 in last weeks state semi-final where Beydoun led the game winning drive that started with just under 4 minutes left. With just 0:38 left he finds his tight end Preston Fryzel in the front corner of the end zone to cap off a drive to advance to the state title game. 

"It's pretty special to be starting in the state championship after coming into the season with aspirations of winning the starting job, but having to accept the role as backup for much of the year." said Beydoun.

Beydoun and company will rightfully play for the coveted state title Friday at 3 p.m. on the campus of Hall of Fame Village, a special moment for the young quarterback.
