CANTON, Ohio--The Canton Mckinley boys Bulldog team put another notch in the win column, defeating Gilmour Academy 70-61 in Saturday night cap game of the OHSBCA Shot Clock Shootout.
After winning the tip Mckinley would start slow going down the first couple possessions to a hot starting Gilmour until the dogs settled in playing defense, applying pressure causing multiple turnovers for the Lancers.
For the first quarter, it was multiple players scoring the ball for the pups as they would end the quarter ahead 18-10 getting scores from Davey Thompson, Reed Sims Jr., Ed Webster, Jaylen Jeter and Jayveion Carter to balance out offense attack.
In the second quarter, Gilmour would apply a zone press that caused some problems for Mckinley that would slow down the offense only getting 11 points in the quarter to Gilmour's 13 ending the half 29-23 in favor of the Bulldogs.
Entering the third quarter the Bulldogs would ramp things up a bit showing a full court press that would cause turnovers to eventual scores, junior Davey Thompson would open up the run by hitting two 3-point shots and following up with an easy 2 point lay in, they never looked back.Final from Canton Memorial Field House @ohioBKcoaches Shot Clock Shootout.@mck_hoops 70

Anthony Chavers would come on in the 3rd scoring 10 points down stretch of half to help keep the pups ahead, Reed Sims Jr. contribute throughout the game with blocks and dunks and key shots to highlight the Bulldog play on both ends of the court.
But Mckinley's ability to go man defense then switch to a press and through the game would go to a 1-2-2 half court zone with the athletic Keith Quincy at top of defense with his deceptive length would make Gilmour succumb.
Davey Thompson would lead all scores with 15 points with 8 coming in second half and getting key steals and would be the game MVP.
"I'm just proud of the guys to be mentally ready and get stops on defense," said Thompson. "The press was working great, the shots my teammates just found me."
The Dogs move to 6-1 on the season with a tough Shot Clock Shootout matchup versus defending state champion St. Ignatius, tip-off at 1:45 p.m. Sunday.
Nick Iliano led the Lancers with 15 points.
