Lawsuit emerges in Massillon involving prior incident coined 'birthday shots'

MASSILLON, OH- According to Channel 19 News Cleveland, a lawsuit was filed on behalf of football player involved and his family in what was called a 'birthday shots celebration' that may have extended boundaries, lawsuit is lodged against Massillon City School District, Head Football Coach, Board of Education and Superintendent, also the high school's principal.

According to court documents obtained by Channel 19 News Cleveland the incident happened on the football players birthday on or about June 26, 2023, from approximately 15 players which involved kicking, punching, tackling, smacking, pinching, and other physical contact during this type of celebration.

The mediation phase of filing is set for October 29, 2024, with a trial date set for February 2, 2026 the incident was when the player was 17 years old who has now turned 18 and who is represented by Akron attorney Edward Gilbert.
