MALVERN, OH- Going undefeated in a high school season is not unheard of, for the Malvern boys basketball team going undefeated (IVC Champs) and being the only undefeated team in Ohio it is for them, it is a first in program history. Malvern capped off the perfect regular season defeating River Pilots 67-47 going 22-0.

The Hornets during this season has seen some milestones such as head coach Dennis Tucci who also doubles as assistant athletic director alongside athletic director Dave Tucci winning his 600th game in 41 years of coaching, with over 500+ at Malvern alone with 31 years at the helm is a tremendous accomplishment. Tucci also early in February was presented the prestigious Paul Walker Award given by the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association for an active coach making significant contributions to high school basketball.

Multiple players have played a significant role in the success of the Malvern undefeated team one in particular is senior point guard J'Allen Barrino who is averaging 18.3 points on the season and has been an intrical part of the offense, although the Barrino name has been a part of the the Malvern community for a long time.

Barrino talked about what this season has meant to him, "It means a lot being a part of something like this, knowing you have the whole community rooting for you and supporting makes this even more special." said Barrino. He also mentioned his teammates during this ride to perfection, "Playing with this group of guys that I've been with since elementary school tops the special feeling because we've all watched each other grow as players." Barrino elaborated.

Basketball is not a recent occurrence for Barrio as stated in his comment above he had two brothers that also played Ja'son Barrino and Gregory Lake that has came through the program along with cousins, uncles collectively.

College Interest for Barrino

Barrio currently has next level offers from Mt. Vernon, Bluffton, Malone, Ohio Dominican University, Bethany College, Muskingum College respectively. The second season begins for Barrino and company Tuesday Feb. 27th versus Ridgewood Generals to open up the OHSAA State Tournament with a 7pm tip-off.
